Ways to Slow Down Dashboard

Posted by Wendy digg delicious su

What the? Maybe I'll just try to do exactly the opposite way..

By the first time you use Mac, you'll be introduced to various kinds of widgets to enhance your Dashboard. You can take me as example, every five minutes I press F12 just to see how my Dashboard is doing. Eventually, I lose my interest.

There are two ways to prevent your Dashboard works faster, i.e. Avoiding Clearing Cache Files and Unlocking the DashboardClient Folder.

Don't 1. Clear Cache Files
Various Dashboard widgets cause many cache files in your Mac. These files are located inside a folder named DashboardClient. This folder itself is laid inside directory path ~/Library/Caches/. I believe you still remember how to use instantly jump to that directory with Finder, G, don't you?

If you really want to slow down your Dashboard, don't try to clear those files inside DashboardClient folder. If you happen to delete those files, don't restart your Dock by using Command Line or by using Activity Monitor.

killall Dock
This command line above can successfully kill your Dock. Don't worry, your Dock is so smart that it can relaunch itself.

Activity Monitor is often used to monitor our Mac's activity. You can use keywords activ to open Activity Monitor with QuickSilver. Inside it, there is button called Quit Process. Highlight Dock (below Process Name) and push that button. This will relaunch your Dock.

Don't 2. Unlock DashboardClient Folder
Locked Dashboard Client blocks new cache file to come in. This is not good as cache files is meant to slow down your Dashboard. Therefore, you've to keep that folder unlocked. This can be checked inside its info pane. Pressing I will no doubt call out this pane. The lock is located under General section, in the form of checkbox labeled Locked.

By doing oppositely, I cannot guarantee your Dashboard will work faster. But, at least, you got chance.
