Responding my recent article Easiest Way to Grab Icon, Luke provides very nice trick that I believe putting it here will be helpful.
With a simple highlight and import, Preview can display exactly the displayed icon. Let's see how to do it.
Highlight Object
Let's say that we want to take the icon of Preview. First, you should open your Finder up to where Preview is located. After that, highlight it by either click on it or move the cursor to it. Now, you've done the first step.

Copy into Clipboard
Hit down Command-C (make sure that the item is in highlight) and the icon will be successfully stored in the clipboard. This all for the second step.
Open with Preview
After those several simple steps before, it's time now to open your Preview. On the menu bar, click File ▸ New from Clipboard.

For the result, this is what you'll get.

This is an awesome trick you can also use with PNG icons. Open the PNG icon in preview, select all, and copy and paste into the upper left of the application's get info window you want to change.
