Create Icon Tricks in Mac OS X

Recently the spirit of iconmaker fill my whole mind, then I think, "Maybe it will be nice if I can create my own icons". Therefore, I searching around and this web come up, entitled : "How to Make Mac Icons".

Then, I happily follow step by step. However, I don't meet satisfying result. The result I got only can copy the icon to my TextEdit, like this..

Of course I didn't give up easily and finally I found this very easy way to convert all kind of images to Mac icons, i.e. icns extension.

Thanks to Shiny Frog for its useful knowledge shared with us.

Curious what are those steps?

Step 1. Make image size 256x256

Even though you already know, I still have to share my knowledge that smooth icon will not always looks smooth if it's not scaled accordingly to an integer number, i.e. 2x, 4x, 8x, etc. Since most of icons use 128x128, 64x64, 32x32, and some 16x16, creating 256x256 icon size will be the most suitable. And I think you already know the reason why not use 128x128 image, right? (Sorry, I don't mean to insult your intelligent)

The image created still have border and shadow around it, i.e. not perfect.

Step 2. Convert to icns format

This step will be scare you to death. You need to go to this site, click on the words "Scarica img2icns!" and img2icns software will be downloaded. If you don't understand what it says, can go to this English site.

Unzip, open and launch it. After that, you need to set up your format to icns file, make storage to store all of your creative icons and drag image you made before to the center of shooting point. You will get the perfect icon for your application. It's scary isn't it?

If the img2icns doesn't give satisfying result for you, try it twice or thrice. Eventually you will get it.
