Fight for Cleaning My Dirty Mac G5
Posted by Wendy

Yesterday I cleaned up my Mac keyboard. I'm very surprised to know the fact that so much dirt was hidden inside it. When I glazed to my Mac G5, I start to imagine how dirty it will be. Why not I open it? Let's fight for my G5 future!
Fight 1. Move the G5 into safer place
I'll be blamed to death by my brother, who presents me this G5, if I don't take good care of my G5. Even a single scratch on it will become my nightmare.
And to tell you the truth, my G5 is so heavy that risk my life to move it. I am skinny.

Fight 2. Unlock the chasing
This is a piece of cake for me. I just need to pull up the longer part and push down the shorter part. So fun that I repeat this step again, again and again.
Then I can easily strip the chasing out of my G5.

Fight 3. Amazed by my naked G5
Wow, it looks so tidy yet so dirty.

Fight 4. Observe the hidden hint
Jing..! It is written behind the chasing of G5. I assume this as how to attach additional memory to G5 (maybe I'm wrong, but I hope I'm not).

Fight 5. Open the only plastic chasing
G5 is made of aluminum almost most of the part, except this plastic cover. Disappointed? Yes, but it's before I experienced the cleaning process of my Mac G5.

Fight 6. Pull out the extra dirty fan, the first fan
Fans will be the dirtiest part compare with others part as they suck in cool air as well as dust. There will be four fans scattered inside G5 but I can only remove 2 and half for my current record. I hope a kind of engineering angel fall in front of me and teach how to pull out all of four fans.

Fight 7. Aim for next fan
As I've said before, I cross the dangerous border here, so don't try this at home if you're not confident enough.
I aim for the second fan. Touch here and touch there (with hand of midas) and finally realize that the second fan is being held by this small part. In conclusion, I have to get rid of this part first.

Fight 8. Unplug it (this makes me sweating)
Can you see the little hole inside snapshot above? There is where the screw buried. And there is another hole at the opposite side of this thing. Need to use screwdriver here and a high confidence not to thrust on other vulnerable part. If you accidently thrust and make a small hole on the board, say bye-bye to your G5.
After that, pull it carefully towards you then move it up and out of your inner G5.

Fight 9. Second fan, I got you..
Nothing can block my desire to pull you out, Mr. Fan.. Beware!
Pull it outside (until the point it cannot be moved anymore), tilt it a bit and pull again to the tilting direction, this will successfully and safely draw this thing out of G5.
Let's see our progress until now.

Fight 11. The last achievement : half fan..
Halfway? Why?
Look closely to backside of your G5. 9 tiny screws will be spotted cling perfectly around the two circles. Pull them out with your ability to control screwdriver or at least you can have somebody to control it for you (even with force?!).
And smile.. as you will know that the fan (yeah, those two circles is the back part of the third fan) can be freely moved, except out of your G5. It's such a pity that it's connected by short-black-little cable, i.e. constrained.
Now you know what I mean by half, right? Half done, and of course, half clean.

Fight 12. Eight-shaped aluminum foil?
After all my efforts to screw out of 9 screws, I only got this 8?

End of fight. Now let's have closer look at my G5
Processor? Who knows. All I know is, it's full of dust; it's dirty.

My G5 seems not so dirty, hold that statement first. Let's see my napkin I use to clean up this so-called dirty G5.

You've already seen my fighting spirit that lasts 12 rounds. What time I can see yours?
As my ending gift, this statement will make you feel curious "Some of you will realize that I missed up one round up there, some of you will not realize". Oh yeah, if you have better idea how to clean up G5, would you mind let me now? Thanks a lot.
