Open PDF Link in Preview

Advertisements

If you've installed Adobe Reader, you'd notice that everytime you click a link containing PDF files, that file will automatically be opened in another browser tab with Adobe Reader instead of Preview.

And some Mac users don't like this behavior because Adobe Reader is more likely to crash than our lovely Preview. How to revert this opening PDF link behavior to its original, i.e. open PDF link in Preview?

You will need 3 steps:

  1. Open Adobe Reader
  2. Go to Adobe Reader ▸ Preferences..
  3. Under Categories Internet, untick the checkbox Display PDF in browser using Adobe Reader (8.1.2)

Now your browser will open PDF document in Preview. If the PDF document is opened in Preview, you can easily download the document to download folder.

Nice trick. Can be also done in Firefox by setting the parameters within Firefox' prefs.

Or just uninstall Adobe Reader. Made my life a lot easier ;)
