Back Button in Firefox 3

Advertisements

Few days ago, we got the new Firefox 3 running smartly and happily. Overall it's quite good and I've encountered no crash up to this point. But there is a thing that maybe will make you feel unhappy: The Big Back Button.

There is a way to make it smaller or even split it with forward button. Here are the things that you should do to achieve that:

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Choose View ▸ Toolbars ▸ Customize..
  3. Look for checkbox labelled Use Small Icons and tick it
  4. If you want to split Back and Forward buttons, choose the option box: Show Icons and Text

Or you install the nice GrApple Theme (http://www.takebacktheweb.org/) for Firefox3 and this browser feels like Safari.

Actually, this was an ingenious usability change:
1. You can't move forward without moving back first. That means the back button is a prominently utilized feature.
2. The majority of users rarely move forward.

I think it was a great feature. They dedicated a larger area to the button that most users use the most.

I like to use Icons only and it is still quite big as compared to Icons and Text. Any idea how to make that big green box disappear or shrink?

Thanks
