Not long time ago (around 7-8 months), I've posted an article about How to Set Finder Background which teach you how to set custom image as your Finder background replacing the default solid white color.

Note: Don't see the cute icons, see the solid color background..

But, how if you want to set solid color as your Finder background?

You can follow these steps and I guarantee you will get your Finder background color changed.

  1. Open Finder.app
  2. Press J to Show up View Options (or you can use right-click ▸ Show View Options)
  3. Look at the bottom, the Background section and enable Color radio button
  4. Now you can click on the square sampled color. There you can find a magnifier button as the color picker at the left side of the color bar.
You can even use that to pick nice color from UsingMac.com.

It's the magnifier button near the color bar, located just below the toolbar. Oh, I forgot to mention this: you need to Show items as icons to be able to change the background. :)
