Daily Trick 43. Batch Resize Images (10.6)

Advertisements

Although the steps needed to do batch resize images on Snow Leopard are more or less similar to those batch resize steps for Mac OS X Leopard, there is a simple workaround needed to perform batch open and resize images on Snow Leopard.

Batch Open Images: Workaround

The problem is, in Snow Leopard you will fail to open many selected images. So I came with this workaround to perform batch open images:

  1. Select and Open One Image with Preview
  2. In the Preview application, choose Menubar: View → Sidebar → Show Sidebar
    or keystrokes Cmd-Shift-D
  3. From Finder, Highlight the rest of the images and Drag-Drop them to that sidebar
  4. Here you've successfully opened all images without fail

Batch Resize Images

Next to be done is to batch resize all of them.

  1. Highlight all thumbnails shown on the sidebar
  2. And then choose Menubar: Tools → Adjust Size…
  3. Fill in the common dimension (size) in pop-up pane
  4. After that, don't forget to save the changes by going to Menubar: File → Save All
    or keystrokes Cmd-Opt-S

By ding this a few times, you will be able to perform batch resize without referring to this step-by-step guide.

Logically syncing your iphone in itunes
When you SYNC in itunes, it MERGES your iphone contacts with your computer's address book contacts, creating DUPLICATE contacts when the contacts are not spelt identically (case too), or not sorted (first/last name) the same way. Then you must manually merge them on your iphone, but it's easier in the address book, and if you hit the wrong button while attempting a logical path, you may well lose all your contacts. The numbered steps below indicate the most logical way to proceed with an itunes sync. The rest is JIC (just in case) or FYI (for your info).
1) SORT iphone and address book THE SAME WAY
address book – top left select address – drop down – preferences – general – sort by – first or last name. Select same order in iphone.
iphone - settings – mail, accounts – scroll down - sort order - first or last name.
2) BACK UP iphone
Plug iphone into computer, go to itunes - devices - your iphone - hold control and left click on your iphone - drop down menu - back up. Past back ups may be erased. To save multiple back ups, see SAVE and FIND below.
VERIFY iphone BACK UP
itunes – at top left click on itunes - drop down menu - preferences – devices tab– box listing back ups by date. The names of the back ups may be identical except for the date at the right of the box. You CANNOT CHANGE THE NAME of the back up. Likewise, when restoring the back up. See RESTORE below.
SAVE and FIND iphone BACK UPS in emergency
Finder- places - your (user) name – library – application support – mobile sync – back ups. Back up files appear in CODE, do NOT rename, make a folder – name folder with DATE of back up, save file to folder. Use to restore in emergencies.
RESTORE iphone BACK UPS
itunes – devices – hold control – drop down menu –restore from back up – drop down box appears - select back up from drop down box. The names of the back ups in the drop down box may be identical and NOT have the date, so one must memorize the vertical order from the itunes - preferences box and select the back up in the restore drop down box based on the order from the preferences back up box.
3) SAVE address book CONTACTS
address book – file – export – drop down – address book archive – save to external drive.
4) SYNC/MERGE iphone and address book contacts together
itunes – devices (on left side menu) – info (tab at top) – check box "sync address book contacts" – select what you wish to sync, SYNC at bottom. It will be MERGED with the iphone information.
5) MERGE DUPLICATE CONTACTS in address book
address book – at top menu select – card – drop down menu – look for duplicates – merge. Get your address book the way you want it.
6) KEEP address book CONTACTS, delete iphone contacts
itunes – devices (on left side menu) – info (tab at top) –(do NOT check box "sync address book contacts") – scroll down to ADVANCED and check box "contacts" Check apply at bottom, then chose replace (or merge if you want to bail).
KEEP iphone CONTACTS, delete address book contacts
Create new user name on mac, log in to new user, sync iphone then in address book – file – drop down menu – export – drop down menu – address book archive – save – then import into normal user name or to external drive then, under normal user name, import the archive.
REORDER iphone EMAIL ACCOUNTS LIST
itunes – info – mail accounts – box "sync selected mail accounts – boxes – select email account – sync one by one – scroll down to advanced – select mail accounts - apply. FIRST SYNCED will be at the top of the list, the second, below it. IF already synced, you must DELETE the accounts and re-sync.

ALL of these complications due to APPLE'S GREEDY use of itunes to control consumers. Guess that's why it's now bigger than Microsoft and the new bad guy.
