Emacs. Bizarre Findings

Advertisements

Contribution of Josh Sand

I have been digging around in /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/ recently, and I have found it is chock full of goodies, and possibly worth of an article on UsingMac.

Files I have found (put line in Terminal):

Interview with Richard Stallman

Who is Richard Stallman? Let's Wikipedia It.

cat /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/INTERVIEW

Emacs. Interview

Hello in Every Language

By executing this Terminal line, you can learn how to say "Hello" in every language.

emacs /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/HELLO

Emacs. Hello

Fun Stuffs

Some cheesy GNU puns, EMACS acronyms, and some funny developers dialogue. I personally love it when one of the authors gets irritated with the bash, and tells it to "eat flaming death".

cat /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/JOKES

Emacs. Jokes

Developers' Humorous Lines

cat /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/DEVEL.HUMOR

Emacs. Developer's Humor

Developer Naughtiness: Sex

cat /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/sex.6

Emacs. Sex

Developer Naughtiness: Condom

cat /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/condom.1

Emacs. Condom

Other Bizarre Stuffs

From strange article about motivation and rewards up to unusual censorship report in software.

cat /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/MOTIVATION
cat /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/CENSORSHIP
cat /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/yow.lines

LOL, so OS X is packed with all these things???

Goomba4001

The files aren't technically on "Mac OS X", they are hidden (kind of) in the files for "emacs". Still bundled with every Mac OS X though. :P

Ajan

wow, wonder what else is hidden...

I especially like the jokes about GNU. If you're wondering how to get out of emacs press control-x control-c.

Linux Geek

This stuff comes with emacs not with the mac.

@Linux Geek
"This stuff comes with emacs now with mac."

Not mutually exclusive. Mac OS X ships with GNU Emacs. It only runs in the terminal though since the included build is without windowing-system support.

dude

lolz these mac boffins are naughty
