It seems that these little tricks here shouldn't be missed. This article is the extension of my other article entitled Using Drag-Drop.

Downloading Image Files

Sometimes you will see a nice looking pictures on the web; You want to download it. Instead of clicking on the image and hence being linked to the place where you can download it. But hey, it's really time consuming. You can just simply drag-and-drop it to anywhere inside your Finder (either Desktop or your local Hard Drive or somewhere else). Is it cool? It's really cool.

Using Drag-Drop

Drag-Drop plays very important role when you use Mac. You even can boost your productivity if you use this properly.

These are some tricks you can do with Drag-Drop.

Quickly Look for and Change File Directory in Terminal

Whenever you drop the file to Terminal, it will display the foll-path to the file. Therefore, you can quickly change your Terminal working directory to the desired directory by typing portion of Terminal command "cd" followed by Drag-Drop file inside directory without the filename.

For example, I am going to change my directory to the folder that contains my Property List files. I will do these actions :

  1. Type "cd"
  2. Drag-Drop one of the files inside to Terminal
  3. Erase the filename and keep the path
  4. Execute the command

Leopard Trick - Secondary Mouse Button

Feeling irritated to reach those far away F8 to F12 key for activating Space, Exposé, or Dashboard for your Mac? If you use double-button mouse, this trick will be very useful.

Follow these simple steps :

  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Enter Exposé and Spaces Preferences Pane
  3. Click on Exposé tab
  4. Expand the second option box
  5. Hold down one or more modifier keys and choose the modified secondary mouse button. The symbol of pressed modifier keys will be visible
  6. I've created mine like the picture below
  7. Now click on the Spaces tab and do the same way, of course with different modifier keys

Basic of Mouse Click

After reading this article, you don't need to worry about having single button mouse.

Mouse plays important role in using Mac, really. Knowing the basic of using mouse will improve our productivity with Mac. With this little knowledge of mine, I will try my best to share my knowledge on mouse's basic moves.

  1. Click : Select item
  2. Click & Drag : Create selection area; All items under this area will be selected
  3. Command-Click or Shift-Click : Add (or remove) selected items
  4. Click on Empty Area : Deselect all items

  1. Spotlight – Prefer to stay in the darkness
  2. Sound Adjustment Button – Avoid noisy place
  3. Close Window Button – Red = danger
  4. Date and Time Display – Need more time to learn human language
  5. QuickSilver Window – Nothing eatable here

Places that Attract Mouse

  1. Apple – Hm.. Yummy
  2. Trash Can – Smell of trash
  3. Dock – Cooperation with dock (read : dog) make good benefit

Specify Your Mouse

There are many kinds of mouse in this world of Mac. But I think, only one kind that you like, right? I suggest you to try to make your mouse become the kind that you like.

Go inside “Keyboard & Mouse Preference Pane” (QS – keymouse), under “Mouse” tab and you will see something like this..

And your mouse also has special ability to cooperate with your key that can provide feature to zoom in/out your view. It also can smooth images when zooming.
