Mac Tricks and Tips, Wallpapers and Applications for Mac Users

Finder Window - Search for Directory

If you want to instantly jump to desired folder while you've already known the exact url, you can do like this :

  1. Open your Finder Window (of course you have to)
  2. Press down Command-Shift-G and you will see url bar appear before your eyes.
  3. Then type in your destination folder. Let's say you want to go to your Applications folder. Type in /Applications and hit Return will bring you there.
  4. There is also a auto-complete feature. When you want to go to Applications folder, you don't need to type in all, just type /App and hit down Tab, it will appear as /Applications/

  5. Note that ~/ is the same as your Home directory and pressing Escape will close the url bar.

Comparing Boot Time, Thumbs Up for Mac

Pick up interesting topic about comparing Mac and Windows booting time. Here is the quote..

I frequently hear apocryphal stories about Macs booting much faster than Windows boxes. There’s a great set of Mac boot time benchmarks on the Silver Mac site that provide solid empirical data to back up those claims:

...

Wow, PC boot times really do suck, right? Well, maybe. It depends on the PC.

Jeff Atwood Blogsite ⎋

Thanks to Jeff Atwood for his information. And he talk further about improving boot time for Windows. Visit him for more information on that.

By the way I feel the same way as him. When using Windows, the boot time is way too slow compare with Mac, but I am not as excellent as Jeff Atwood in wrapping the information in detail.

Thumbs up for Jeff, thumbs up for Mac – Four Thumbs Up for both.

Quickness or Accuracy - QuickSilver or Spotlight

QuickSilver as reflects by its name, is the fastest application searching for Mac. But, its quickness affect its user too. Its user must have ability to quickly key in all the keywords required to open specific files (or they have to replay it all over).

In contradiction to Spotlight, one of the searching application in Mac. Spotlight can search everything you want, but not with the same quickness as QuickSilver. It always returns everything.

Which one do you prefer?

Application Searching

When searching for application, I prefer using QuickSilver. As I have experienced before, QuickSilver always returns apps that I want. Different from Spotlight that give me lots of result, it slows me down to look at what I want first.
